Graphic designer, educator, and researcher, Juanma Gomez holds a Master’s degree in Typo/Graphic Studies from the London College of Printing [→], supervised by Ian Noble and Russell Bestley and awarded with distinction, and in Editorial Design from the Istituto Europeo di Design [→] in Madrid. In 2023 he obtains a postgraduate degree from the ANRT, Atelier national de recherche typographique/ENSAD Nancy [→], where he specializes in the study of editorial graphic forms and their history.
Juanma Gomez is currently pursuing doctoral research at Paris 8 University (UR AIAC), in association with the ANRT [→], under the supervision of Catherine de Smet and Alice Savoie. This work examines the role of the professional press dedicated to graphic design and the printing industries in France during the second half of the 20th century. In 2025, he joins the team of the bilateral collaborative research project “Reception of the New Typography in the French-speaking graphic scenes: rejections, adoptions, renegotiations (1925–1979)” [→], supported by ANR and SNSF and led jointly by Paris 8 University (UR AIAC) and ECAL/HES-SO.
In 2007, he founds the studio Graphique-lab [→] in Paris, situating his practice at the crossroads of publishing, visual communication, architecture, and contemporary art, with a keen focus on typographic form and the ergonomy of text. He collaborates with creators, agencies, and institutions to design visual identities, websites, editorial objects, and exhibition signage systems. Since 2024, he is also in charge of the art direction and editorial design of Même si — Malou éditions [→], a Paris-based platform for research and contemporary creation. Involved in higher education since 2017, Juanma Gomez currently teaches in the DSAA Design éditorial multisupports programme in Montreuil and in the College of art and design of Amiens.
